Eve Irvine served as Police Chief for the City of Manhattan Beach, becoming the first woman to lead the department when she was sworn in on June 1, 2011. Her path to the role began in 1982 with the Inglewood Police Department, where she started as a police cadet before becoming a sworn officer in 1984. Over her 29-year tenure in Inglewood, she worked nearly every division within the department, including patrol, field training, and investigations covering child abuse, sex crimes, robbery, and domestic violence, before rising to become the department's first female police captain.
Chief Irvine earned her bachelor's degree in business and management from the University of Redlands in 1997 and her MBA from the University of La Verne in 2000. As Manhattan Beach Police Chief, she oversaw a department of more than 60 officers and staff and became known throughout the community for her accessibility and hands-on approach to public safety.
Chief Irvine went on to become Chief of Police for the City of Torrance, again the first woman to hold that role. Her career reflects decades of trailblazing leadership in law enforcement, offering Manhattan Beach Youth Council members a powerful example of perseverance and public service.
